Most Common Rideshare Scams Drivers Should Know About
New drivers sometimes get caught by scams that experienced drivers already recognize.
Fake support calls, destination changes, payment tricks, or passengers asking for cash outside the app.
What scams have you personally seen or heard about while driving?

Heads up, drivers.
I came across an in-app safety warning about a scam that is still catching people off guard because it looks routine at first.
Here is how it usually works:
A scammer places a fake ride or delivery request. Once a driver accepts it, the scammer can see the same basic driver details a normal rider would see. Then they call through the app, which makes the call look more legitimate. During the call, they pretend to be support and say there is a serious issue with your account, suspicious activity, an ID problem, or some urgent verification requirement.
That is where the pressure starts.
They may ask for:
-
your one-time verification code
-
your passcode
-
debit card or banking details
-
a transfer of funds to receive a fake bonus, reimbursement, or promotion payout
That is the trap.
A few major red flags:
-
You are told to act immediately
-
You are threatened with deactivation
-
You are asked to transfer money to receive money
-
You are promised a bonus that requires upfront action
-
You are asked for personal security codes or card information
Real support should not need your one-time code, passcode, or a rushed money transfer over a call.
Best move if this happens:
-
slow down
-
do not share codes
-
do not move money
-
end the call
-
verify support through official channels only
If something feels off, trust that instinct. Panic is part of the scam.
Drivers work too hard for their earnings to lose them to somebody hiding behind a fake support script and a borrowed sense of urgency.
If you have experienced something like this, share what happened below so other drivers know what to watch for.
Stay sharp out there.
